The human trial
The 2007 study, published in Russian, gave Semax 1% solution into the nose at 12 mg a day in two 10-day courses two weeks apart, and followed nerve and muscle function by electromyography and quality-of-life scales. The authors report that Semax did not influence the course of the disease or the clinical scores. The trial was open-label, with no placebo group.

Does nasal Semax reach the brain?
A 2006 rat study tracked radiolabeled Semax given into the nose. Two minutes after dosing, 0.093% of the total radioactivity was found per gram of brain, 80% of it still intact Semax. The peptide broke down quickly, mostly to the fragment Pro-Gly-Pro. That shows rapid arrival in small amounts in rats; it has not been measured in people.
