Does BPC-157 need to be injected near the injury?

Not necessarily. Clinics administer BPC-157 by subcutaneous injection either near the injured area or into the abdomen. Many prefer near the injury for tendon and joint problems; others say it is not required, because the peptide enters the circulation. No study has compared the two injection sites in people.

Near the injury

Clinics that inject near the injury do so for a local effect256. One delivers the dose into the subcutaneous fat near the injury site1, and others prefer the injured area for tendon, ligament and muscle problems23.

Into the abdomen

Other clinics say the site matters less. One says the injection site is not always the main factor in results, because the peptide enters the circulation4. Another describes abdominal injection as a practical alternative when the injury site cannot be reached, with a response that may be somewhat slower2. Clinicians describe abdominal injection as simpler and lower-risk, and injection near a joint as more technically challenging5. A further clinic uses either site6.

What the human studies used

The three published human studies did not use either subcutaneous site: one gave injections into the knee joint, one injected the bladder wall during cystoscopy, and one gave infusions into a vein789. No study has compared injection near an injury with abdominal injection in people.

Both sites, with the doses clinics use, are set out in How is BPC-157 taken?.
