Why there are no rates on this page
Side-effect rates come from systematic collection during controlled trials: a defined population, a defined exposure, and adverse events recorded whether or not anyone thought to look for them. BPC-157 has no completed trial of that kind. Any percentage attached to it would therefore be built from what people volunteered about themselves, and that source has a specific blind spot — it captures what a person noticed and connected to the compound, which excludes anything too gradual, too quiet, or too rare to stand out against ordinary life. What “no toxic dose identified” actually establishes
The animal toxicology record is genuinely unusual: across roughly thirty years of study, researchers have not identified a toxic dose in the tested species. That is worth reporting plainly. What it establishes is that acute toxicity did not appear in those animals at the doses examined. What it does not establish is a human safety profile, because the questions that matter most — effects over years, effects in people with existing disease, interactions — are not the questions an acute animal toxicology study asks.
Absence of a finding is also sensitive to what was measured. A study designed to detect acute toxicity is not designed to detect a slow one, and reading its silence as an all-clear extends the result past what it covered.
What users report
The commonly reported effects are mild and local: injection-site redness or irritation that resolves within hours, occasional mild dizziness in the early period, and inconsistent reports of mild headache. The angiogenesis question, stated precisely

It also contains no study designed to look for it — the research measured wound healing and tissue repair, not malignancy risk. So the question is open rather than answered, and it is open in both directions: the absence of reports is not evidence of absence when nothing was measuring.
What the regulatory position adds, and what it does not
BPC-157 was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's bulk drug substances list in 2023 — the significant-safety-concern category, which bars compounding pharmacies from preparing it. Its subsequent history is procedural rather than substantive: it was technically removed from Category 2 when the original nominators withdrew, then renominated through a different pathway. Removal from Category 2 does not authorise compounding and does not place a substance in Category 1. The category placement reflects a regulatory judgement made largely on the absence of adequate safety data, so it is better read as another statement of that absence than as an independent finding about the molecule.
What none of this covers
